If former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury gets his way, his professional basketball career will end right where it began. On an NBA court.

Marbury announced his comeback attempt on Instagram. He detailed his journey with a long, written explanation and said in a video, “Yes. It’s true. An NBA comeback is coming. Love is love.”

Marbury broke into the NBA in 1996 as the No. 4 pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He had an accomplished NBA career, making two All-Star teams (2001, 2003), and earning All-NBA Third Team honors twice (2000, 2003).

Marbury last played in the NBA in 2009. Over the last eight years, the game has changed a lot, with the three-point revolution taking over in the last five years. Considering that, and the fact that Marbury will turn 41 during the 2017-18 season, a return to the NBA would seem like a longshot.

Still, it does need to be pointed out that since playing in the NBA, Marbury had a tremendous career in the Chinese Basketball Association. He won three CBA championships, a CBA Finals MVP, a CBA Foreign MVP, made six CBA All-Star teams, and even starred in a play about himself.
