David Johnson got some bad news regarding his injured wrist on Monday, and the Arizona Cardinals running back will now miss at least half of the regular season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Johnson will need surgery. The Cardinals are placing him on injured reserve, which means Johnson has to miss at least eight weeks.

An initial report on Sunday said Johnson suffered only a sprain and might not even miss a game, but it turned out that Johnson had dislocated his wrist. He was slow to get up after taking a big hit against the Detroit Lions, but he walked off the field under his own power. Johnson returned for the first play of Arizona’s next offensive series and fumbled on his first carry.

Based on what Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday, it sounds like Johnson could miss even more than two months.
