Duane Brown holdout burns Texans in Week 1

If any player in the past few years gained more leverage following a holdout than Duane Brown, you’ll have to let us know who it is, because things couldn’t have gone better for Brown on Sunday.

The Houston Texans were destroyed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first half of their season opener. Not only were they down 19-0, but perhaps worse than that is they allowed six sacks. Calais Campbell set a Jags record with 3.5 sacks in the first half, while Yannick Ngakoue had two sacks in the first half.

Brown is Houston’s left tackle and signed a seven-year, $ 56.2 million deal in 2012. He has two years left on the deal for good money — $ 9.4 million in 2017 and $ 9.75 million in 2018.

Brown was subject to fines for missing the team’s offseason program and training camp. It will be interesting to see whether this brutal showing will motivate Houston to try and work things out with Brown after struggling so much on the line without him.
