The Cleveland Indians are the hottest team in baseball, and their incredible stretch of play over the past two weeks is costing one local company a fortune.

During the month of July, Universal Windows Direct in Cleveland ran a promotion offering customers a full rebate on any work they had done if the Indians went on a 15-game winning streak at some point between Aug. 1 and the end of the season. Co-owners William Barr and Mike Strmac held a watch party for customers at Progressive Field Thursday night, and there were smiles all around as the Indians clobbered the Chicago White Sox 11-2.

Lorianne Sevic and her husband Dan had $ 34,000 worth of windows, siding doors and gutters installed on their home. They’ll soon be getting that $ 34,000 back.

“I never believed it was going to happen, so I only started paying attention yesterday,” Lorianne Sevic told ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

In total, Universal Windows Direct will be paying back $ 1.7 million to its customers. Naturally, the owners of the company took out a large insurance policy for the promotion. Barr says the policy cost $ 75,000. The idea for the 15-game win streak promotion came because the company is celebrating its 15th year in business.

In reality, promotions like that typically work out well for everyone. Universal Windows Direct got plenty of exposure, and insurance will cover the majority of the rebates. That said, how unlikely was a 15-game win streak? The Indians have never done it before, and it is the longest streak in baseball in 15 years. Don’t be surprised if we see a similar situation to the one that recently played out in Michigan.
